Residents involved in traffic accidents have a new way to access police reports that eliminates time-consuming trips to the department, Gilbert Police said.
Accident reports are now available online through TRACView, an Internet application that law enforcement agencies can use for free..
Insurance companies also have access.
Gilbert Police began a partnership with Docview LLC, which maintains TRACView, in August and launched the program locally in October.
"It provides involved parties access to the reports 24 hours a day, 7 days a week," said police spokesman Sgt. Mark Marino.
The reports approved for public release are downloadable in PDF format for $10 and require report number, date of incident and a valid credit card.
Reports are usually available within 24 hours of being scanned into the system.
Fatal accident reports are not available through the Web site.
Marino said TRACView will save residents time while taking some workload off the records office.
"I think it's a very good program for the community to gain access to the reports that they would otherwise have to go to the department for," he said.
